dsdn171: Assignment 10

Art Chantry, I take one everywhere I take my penis, 1997
(sourced from: Crewkoos Rock Poster Artists Interviews)

I used an example of the graphic designer  Art Chantry's work to explore  postmodernism since his work makes use of several elements of postmodernism and 'remix'. ' I take one everywhere I take my penis' is health and safety poster from 1997, although the nature of the poster is serious it uses humor to portray the message. Like many of Art Chantry work lot of the humor also lay in ironic imagery, in this case it is a stereotypical 1950's illustration of a cop, also seen in his "Hempfest" poster where a wholesome looking logger is use to promote the legalization of Cannabis  in America.  His works content is based on eclecticism, element from classical Americana, contemporary photography and typography and an array of other pop reference is use, giving his work a sense of intertextuality. The style it self is of a deconstructive nature and has that cut and paste feel  of many other postmodern works.
